Janine,

Thanks for the tip! I have just started looking for more cost effective, non-toxic cleaners for the house. Like you said, it can be difficult finding a worthy product. There are, unfortunately, all kinds of "green" products that just don't work. Finding the ones that are affordable and actually perform can be very rewarding.

Hi, I really enjoyed reading your post. For me, it's a challenge to balance not only being green and frugal, but also using things that are convenient. I find myself making trade-offs all the time. In general, particularly for non-green items, I find that I get what I pay for. I've tried and been disappointed with more inexpensive green items like laundry detergent for example. On the other hand I've tried the premium brands and they're effective but it's hard to justify paying that much for something I go through like hot cakes. I've actually found a detergent I'm quite pleased with. It's called Grab Green (www.grabgreenhome.com). It's middle of the road in price, but just as effective as the premium stuff. It's green and not toxic. It uses less packaging and is convenient. I'm happy that I found it and hope I can save others the trouble that I went through!

Sparky,

I am working on adding a contact form to the site so that readers may contact me privately. You're comment has spurred me to action and I will try to get it up tonight! For the short term, feel free to contact me with any thoughts or questions at tyler@frugallygreen.org

As for the length of posts, I appreciate your honest feedback. Since I currently post only once a week, my goal is to provide as much insight on the topics I cover as possible in each one. But you very well may be right that I am a bit too wordy. I will be reviewing my posting style and frequency as I receive feedback from readers like you. So thanks for the kind words and thanks even more for the down and dirty truth!

hey there. mr. tyler

found your blog via grs, which i love to read. a few suggestions... please... not meaning to be a hater.

#1 pehaps am blind, but is there anywhere to contact you (the site) other than comments? Have some questions, but not really appropriate for this formant.

#2 love, love, love the content of site/ suggestions, but perhaps a bit too wordy? in this twittering, text messaging, instant access to information world, i found myself skimming, instead of reading every single word.

..anyways keep it up, i think this site is well needed and worth it, will def. be coming back.

[...] Are You More Frugal or Green?: Balancing Multiple Goals Which camp do you fall into? Tyler goes into the trap of being too frugal or cheap at the risk of neglecting green-oriented goals. He also states that “…as noble as it may seem to shirk financial gain in favor of saving the world at all cost (forgive the pun), how many people can really sustain such a life?” The question is, how can you strike a balance?
