Brenda, being able to forgive yourself when you fail is incredibly important. Dwelling on it only creates more negativity that can really put the damper on a great plan.

I try to focus on changing the big things and the routine rather than every single little thing in my life. That way I really only have to think about it once, and the results continue. For instance, not eating meat got a lot easier once I had a few favorite meals that I could turn to even when I didn't feel like thinking.

I'm also trying to be more forgiving of my failings, so I don't completely derail my good intentions.

If our weaknesses make us entertaining, I ought to have traveling show. :)

And let's not forget, weaknesses are what make us entertaining! Or, at least that's what I keep telling myself.

(p.s. Kate's blog is awesome! Frugal homeownership? Brilliant. I <3 the internets so!)

Hey Kate,

Thanks for the really thoughtful comment. I suppose, in a way, I have to agree with you. Weaknesses can certainly serve as great motivation and inspiration to change. I still suck at time management, and this post almost never was, but I pushed through it and hit submit because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. Thanks for stopping by!

I loved your post, but I have to respectfully disagree with what you said about being unable to turn weaknesses into strengths. It might take a while, but its in our flaws that I think we can find the greatest potential.
I couldn't manage my time if I had all of eternity, and I waste it with impossible dreams, but sometimes its when I'm woefully lost in space that I come up with the best ideas.
After all, it was a flaw (lack of time management skills) that resulted in your idea for this post! If we didn't have to work at anything, the world would be a very boring place. Aldra, you hit the nail on the head, I'd much rather read posts from someone who admits that they aren't perfect than someone who puts themselves up on a pedestal.

Glad to hear I'm not alone in that thinking, Aldra. Being effective at the right things is much more important than being efficient at the wrong ones. Keep us posted on your progress.

So far, all my subscriptions have built slowly but steadily. I wouldn't mind a rush of subscribers though!

As a blog writer, reader and luvah, I have to say that I really prefer to read blogs where folks admit their fallibility. Isn't that where the most beautiful exchanges occur? Not with some teacher/student dynamic, where one is superior, but two folks stumbling along, sharing their beautifully flawed humanity. So! I'm glad to see this!

I am also entertained when I have a rush of subscriptions and/or cancellations based on something I wrote. (I dunno, maybe that doesn't happen to you!) It's impossible to please everyone and pointless to try.

I'm horrible at time management. I'm focusing on being effective instead of efficient, because I am amazingly talented at being efficient doing pointless crap.

I love your idea of combining goals. I'm also trying to eat less meat in addition to eating out less and taking public transportation more. They go hand in hand for me, as it's much harder for me to go out to eat for lunch if I don't have my car. So, I've been prepping massive quantities of veg-friendly foods for work and taking the train.
